Let's talk to you, readers, about how to sew slippers. I’ve been sewing my own slippers for a long time now because store-bought ones aren’t enough. I wear my slippers with pleasure, and they last much longer. To sew slippers I use old things: fabric from an old coat, woolen items, soles from slippers. My slippers can be washed and will not get damaged.

I sew slippers in one evening. If you need such indoor slippers, then read this article.
We are preparing material for slippers: an old coat made of drape, soles from old slippers or ready-made felt insoles, woolen or flannelette fabric for inside slippers, braid or bias tape made of strong material for finishing the edge.

You will also need a sewing machine, or perhaps sew manually. Thread number 10 for the sole and thread for sewing the top. Scissors. Materials for decoration.

Sequence of work

Preparing the pattern. The photo shows a pattern of size 37, which can be increased or decreased according to the leg.

We cut the top and insoles of the slippers along the grain thread. Under the top part we cut a second part from soft wool or felt fabric (old things: sweaters, blouses, trousers).

You can also cut out double pieces for lifting under the heel.

We cut the bias tape at an angle of 45 degrees so that it lies more neatly on the edge of the sneaker.

Sew the details under the heels

We connect the upper part of the slipper with the lower part and sew it at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. We trim the bottom edge to 2-3 mm so that it does not interfere with stitching. We process it with bias tape.

We baste the upper part to the footprint, aligning the middle on the toe. Stitching on a typewriter.
We baste the bias tape and sew it on. We do not fold the lower part of the binding, because it will be under the sole.

Sew the details under the heels

Now we take the sole and sew the upper part of the slipper by hand.

We decorate slippers in any way: with a flower, a button, braid, applique. This action can be done earlier when sewing the top.

And now a little advice: if your slippers slip on linoleum, then glue pieces of leather onto the sole and you will not slip. I've been doing this ever since I was injured in a slip.

Happy crafting!

Slippers are comfortable slippers. Unfortunately, store-bought options very often do not satisfy with their functionality and convenience. Therefore, you have to take this matter into your own hands and make your own slippers. In addition, you can make slippers with your own hands as a special gift for someone; although the item is extraordinary, it contains the “warmth” of your hands, which may be more pleasant than an ordinary store-bought product.
We will tell you how to make slippers with your own hands in this article, and we will offer you several options. Choose which one is right for you.

Lasso Slippers by Gaspard Tiné-Berès

To create slippers you will need a piece of soft felt and a long lace.

The first step is to cut a pattern from a piece of felt. Make the base according to the size of the foot, the height of the sides of the slippers is to your taste - 6-7cm or more or less.

Then you cut out the instep of the foot. It’s probably worth doing the pattern operation on the auxiliary material first, and when you’re happy with it, cut out the felt. Well, then, just tie the parts of the slippers together with a lace.

That's all.

Knitted slippers with your own hands

You will need perforated insoles, a piece of fabric, a hook and thread.

The insoles are applied to the fabric, and we cut out the inner part.

Baste the fabric with the insole.

We knit the details of the slippers. Five are dialed air loops, and then adjusted to size.

The front parts of the slippers are decorated with knitted bows.

The edging is knitted...

... and the back of the slippers.

Sew the front part of the slippers to the sides.

All is ready.

DIY “Sunflower” slippers

As you understand, for such bright slippers you will need felt different colors. Prepare it. We take measurements from the leg and make a pattern.

Green felt is used to make the sole, heel, and front part. Yellow felt is used for the sole and for making a sunflower. Brown felt is also used for making sunflowers. Then we sew the apron and back to the sole using a welt stitch. The green sole and yellow sole are also joined with a welt seam or glued.
How to make a sunflower is probably not worth telling. Everything is quite obvious.

As you can see, they turned out to be unusual bright slippers.

DIY Floral Slippers

We take measurements from the leg and make a pattern.

Yellow felt is used to make the sole and forefoot. Cut out the soles of the slippers from brown felt. We sew the front part to the brown sole. Then the yellow part of the sole is sewn or glued. And the final touch is sewing on the braid. Choose the ornament yourself.

DIY “Roses” slippers

Pink fleece, pink lining fabric, white felt, and satin ribbons half a centimeter wide will be used. We take measurements from the leg and make a pattern like this.

The tops of slippers are cut out of fleece, from lining fabric– parts for the tongue. The soles and edges of the slippers are cut out of white felt. At the cut points, we connect the parts with pink tape using horizontal stitches and sew the edges of the slippers both top and bottom. Then we sew on the top of the slipper satin ribbon. Glue the second layer of the sole. The top of the slippers can be decorated with some flower made of satin fabric.

Another option for DIY slippers

We prepare insoles, genuine leather, awl, thread, glue.

Having attached the insole to the leather, we cut out two leather insoles (our leather is blue)

Then we place a foam or felt insole between two leather insoles and fasten them with drops of glue. And then carefully sew around the edges of the sole.

Now we make the top of the slippers. It is necessary to know the width of the entrance and the distance from thumb to the entry point.

Using the template we made, we cut out two pieces of leather.

We sew the edges of the upper parts like the sole - with a single crochet.

The next stage is stitching the parts together.

And the last stage is gluing the foam sole.

In fact, there are a great many options for slippers, we have given only a part possible options. Perhaps you will come up with something of your own or use an existing idea, in any case, these slippers will turn out to be special, we are sure of it.

House slippers are easy to make with your own hands, even if you don’t have sewing machine. You can connect the parts of slippers hand stitches, including using a special awl.
It is not difficult to make a pattern for slippers; just trace the outline of the foot and experimentally cut out the top of the slippers. Slippers can be made from old sheepskin coat, leather jacket, bag, cloth and felt materials, etc.

This master class contains 15 photos that clearly show how to sew simple model DIY home slippers. The master class also contains a free pattern for size 37.

Slipper pattern size 37

This pattern is designed for a size 37 foot, but it can be used as a basis for making a pattern in another size larger or smaller. The pattern is given without allowances.
Print these photos (A4 paper size) on a printer, cut out the outlines of both parts with scissors, and glue these parts of the pattern together along the red line.

Make sure your pattern is the correct size before cutting. To do this, you need to check with another ruler, the distance (20cm) in the photo. If the value differs from 20 cm, you need to change the printer settings.

This simple model of slippers is easiest to make from felt or the top of felt boots, but they can be made from scraps of leather, cloth and other dense and hard materials.
Children's slippers can be made from sheepskin, artificial or natural fur. For small children, the soles of slippers made of fur or sheepskin do not need to be reinforced with additional padding.
The sole of fur slippers for adults must be doubled with a leather lining.

This model of slippers is quite simple, so it is advisable to decorate it with appliqué, especially if the slippers are for children.

To ensure that the decoration is neatly attached to the surface of the slippers, buy an adhesive-based applique in the store.

The adhesive-based applique is installed using a hot iron, as shown in this photo.

When sewing slippers, it is advisable to use strong, thick threads that simultaneously perform a decorative function.
Install a needle number 100 - 110 on the sewing machine, set the stitch length to the maximum.

To make the finishing stitch more noticeable, I inserted two threads into the needle and also wound a double thread onto the bobbin.

Now secure the edges with clips as shown in the photo.

Sew this seam on sewing machine with an allowance from the edge of 0.6 - 0.8 cm.

To make this seam stronger, it is advisable to repeat the stitch.

Therefore, lower the needle down and turn the slippers in the other direction. Make a duplicate line.

Practically, the sewing of the slippers is complete; all that remains is to strengthen the sole with additional padding. By the way, if you don’t have a sewing machine, you can make this seam by hand, including using an overcast stitch.

How to strengthen the sole of slippers with additional padding

Slippers must have durable and wear-resistant soles. When sewing slippers at home, the choice of materials for the soles is limited. Typically, thick natural leather is used for this. You can cut the padding for the sole from the top of old boots or an old leather bag etc.
If you wish, you can buy a ready-made sole in a store made from micropores or other materials.

Trace the outline of the sole of the slippers on paper, as shown in the photo.

The cut out sole can simply be glued with glue.

Now you can wear slippers without fear that the soles will wear out.

Having a good pattern, you can sew comfortable slippers with your own hands, because this necessary thing in any home.

We will work with existing fabrics, we will not buy anything, we will use material from unnecessary old things, as well as pieces of leather from worn-out handbags or even boot tops.

In any home there will be skirts, jackets, drape coats that you would hate to throw away, but will never wear again. Usually they are lying around in a bag somewhere in the basement. At least that's how it is for me.

Even if you've been happily wearing them for a long time, there are always good pieces there. Let's give unfashionable, but still very good things a second life.

One tip: if you have an old wool sweater lying around, you can felt it in the machine, dry it, iron it - this is an excellent material for sewing homemade slippers! Once felted, it is no longer subject to shedding.

Here are presented, by and large, three patterns for cutting and sewing soft, cozy slippers with your own hands.

There are several more options for soft slippers with knitting patterns, by following the link you will find how crocheted, and knitting, as well as varieties, for example, only with crochet trim. Slippers from an appendix to an old magazine, poor quality photo, but I’m convinced that the material is still relevant.

2 sewing patterns from Peasant Woman

Who doesn’t know, in Soviet times there were magazines for women called Peasant and Rabotnitsa. Frankly speaking, the name is not very good, but at one time they were loved by many. Recipes and patterns were given there. It’s a pity that there were no good color pictures, but we were glad that we had them.

Overall, the materials were very useful and the ideas inspired creativity. Since I recently came into possession of the files of this publication, I present something useful.

Using almost the same pattern, you can sew both regular flip-flops (without backs) and fully closed slippers.

The first model is more open, the second one has an original valve. Size 36-37. If a larger size is needed, then increase the pattern along the entire contour. If the leg is narrow, then increase only in length.

The simplest material will do, perhaps even one that has been collecting dust in the pantry for a long time. For the upper part you need corduroy, drape or soft leather. You can use thin fabrics: fold them in several layers and stitch them for density. It is better to make the sole from the leather of old boots or bags.

Inside the slippers you can put an insole of leather, fur, or drape.

Cutting details (1 piece each - this is for one slipper, without seam allowances, we will take it 0.5 cm):

  • Valve
  • Sole (cut along the inner contour of the bottom part)

Sewing order:

Cut out parts from the material. Process the top. Cut a slot along the inside for the leg. We either hem the inner edge or trim it with a beautiful braid or edging. You can also decorate it with fluffy fringe.

Next we work with the bottom detail. We cut out the sole separately and glue it with instant glue. Now you can connect the top and bottom parts. First, we tighten the top piece with thread along the outer edge. We do the same with the bottom part. Both parts must match the points from 1 to 10, which are written in circles.

They will look a little different - more gathers on the back of the top and the nose of the bottom. We sew them from the face.

You can make a decorative seam with leather or thick colored thread or lace. Or treat it with braid. One slipper is ready. Let's move on to the second one. Just remember that the pattern will be reversed in relation to the first one.

If you decide to decorate your slippers with original flaps, then cut out part 3. Finish the edge. You need to sew the valve along line 11-12. It is secured with ties attached to the point marked with a cross on the top part and the valve itself. The ties can be a continuation of the braid with which the edge is finished.

Option based on a pattern from Burda

The following method of sewing slippers for the house was proposed at one time by the magazine Burda. True, because of the pom-poms and the sharp, upward-looking nose, they look more like little slippers. :)

The pattern is simple, first you just need to measure the length of your foot - it should match the length in the diagram. Enlarge it in a graphics editor to the desired width and print it on a printer.

The black part is the sole, and the red part is the upper.

The picture below briefly shows the operating procedure. The lining is indicated in light green - inner part, and with a colored pattern - on the outside.

Increase the pattern of the sole and top to 28 centimeters.

Description of work

  1. For each slipper, cut out two uppers from material and one sole from felt. To get shoes for the right and left feet, cut one sole as in the pattern, and turn the other over to get a mirror image. Do the same with the side parts - two along the pattern, two along the inverted side. Additionally, cut out a fleece top and sole for each slipper. This will be the inner part, the lining. Don't forget a 5mm seam allowance.
  2. Place the sides of the fabric face to face, pin them together, and then sew them together. Press the seams in different directions. Repeat for the inner side elements (Fig. 1 and 2).
  3. Fold the outer and inner sides for each slipper and pin them face to face, sew along the inner circumference (Fig. 3). Make notches on the circumference with scissors, turn it inside out, iron it.
  4. Place the lining and soles facing each other. First sew on the sole, and then the seam on the heel (Fig. 4).
  5. Place the lining and sole together, right sides together, and stitch, leaving a small hole of 8 cm (Fig. 5). Connect the heel seam.
  6. Turn the slippers inside out through the hole left, then carefully sew up this hole by hand (Fig. 6).
  7. Make a pompom from wool and sew it to the slippers (Fig. 7).
