Wine festival in Portugal

At the end of August - beginning of September, the island of Madeira is bustling with shows, folklore dances, stage performances. All attention is given to the main thing - the world-famous drink. The New Wine Festival lasts a whole week. Many wine cellars are opening, there are tables on the streets, and the owners invite you to a tasting. The symbol of Madeira is the wine of the same name; its origin has several legends.

One of them tells about a merchant who wanted to export several barrels of wine by sea. However, not all the barrels fit in the hold, and the scorching sun on the deck ruined the wine - at least that’s what the owner thought. However, when the “ruined” barrels were opened, an unusual original taste of the wine was revealed. Today this effect is achieved by more than in a simple way, however, Madeira has become a real symbol of the holiday.

Fekla - Beetroot

In 304, many Christians suffered for their faith, and three saints Timothy, Agapius and Thecla found themselves at the center of events. They were brought before the emperor and accused of removing idols and other crimes against paganism. Timothy was burned, and at the same time, in another city, Agapius and Thekla suffered - they were given over to be torn to pieces by wild animals.

On Thekla they began harvesting beets, which have long been valued in Rus' for their healing properties and sweetish taste. Crushed leaves help with inflammation of the eyes, raw roots are used for toothache - they should be kept in the mouth. The cooling, diuretic and laxative properties of beets are known. The main dishes are borscht and botvinya. In winter, pickled beets were prepared for boiled potatoes. If the wind blew from the south on Thekla, you can expect a good harvest of oats.

For them, on the Day of Knowledge, ceremonial assemblies dedicated to the beginning of the school year are held, as well as peace lessons, which have already become traditional. For first graders, their first school bell rings. School wall newspapers are drawn for them, songs about the school are heard. Students of other classes also have a reason to rejoice, because they again meet with their favorite teachers and school friends.

Of course, in different schools the holiday "Knowledge Day" is celebrated in its own way. And in recent years, some schools have begun to celebrate September 1 on a grand scale: parties are held outdoors or in cafes. In secondary specialized and higher educational institutions, ceremonial assemblies are usually not held. There is a formal assembly for freshmen, but senior students are already studying.

History of the Day of Knowledge holiday

It is worth recalling several historical facts regarding this day. Initially, all nations celebrated this day as a harvest festival. In our country, back in the time of Peter the Great, it was customary to celebrate the New Year on this day. But then it was decided to move the New Year to January 1, following the example of European countries.

Now September 1 is a public holiday called “Knowledge Day”. This day should not be confused with Teacher's Day; currently they are separate holidays.

It should be recalled that the Day of Knowledge was officially celebrated in the USSR in 1984. Before September 1st received the status public holiday, it was a school day. Although this day began with a ceremonial assembly, then regular lessons were held.

On September 1, the top officials of the state traditionally congratulate teachers and students on Knowledge Day. Various educational institutions are visited by representatives of district and city administrations.

It can be said that there is no person in Russia who would not remember with joy the day of the first call, his first teacher and school friends.

Meaning

The holiday on September 1 - the Day of Knowledge - is not only for teachers and students, it is also intended to emphasize the importance of education.

The academic year in modern Russian schools begins on September 1 and continues until the end of May. It is divided into quarters, with vacations between them. At the end of each quarter and at the end of each year, students receive final grades in all subjects studied.

In our country, education in grades 10 and 11 is not compulsory. After completing the 11th grade, the student is issued a Certificate of Complete general education. After this, he can enter a secondary or higher educational institution. After 9th grade you can only enter a secondary specialized educational institution.

Almost all schools today work 6 days a week, the day off is Sunday. 4-7 lessons are held daily, the duration of each lesson is 45 minutes. There are 10-20 minute breaks between lessons. There are also music, art and sports schools in Russia.

History of education in Russia

It should be noted that education in Russia has a long history.

In Rus', the first educational institutions were called schools. The word “school” itself began to be used only from the 14th century. In those days, schools were not just educational institutions, but also real cultural centers in which translations were made and manuscripts were copied.

After the Tatar-Mongol invasion, education in Rus' fell into decay. It was preserved and spread only thanks to the activities of Orthodox monasteries.

The vocational education system in Russia was created during the reign of Peter the Great. In Moscow from the middle of the 17th century. Schools began to open, based on European grammar schools.

In 1714, Peter the Great declared education in Russia compulsory for children of all classes. The only exceptions were the children of peasants. During the reign of Peter the Great, the Academy of Sciences was also created. Under her rule, the first Russian university was opened in St. Petersburg. A gymnasium was established under him. A similar university was opened in Moscow in 1755.

For the secondary school system, there was a need to train teachers. In St. Petersburg, for this purpose, the Main Public School was founded in 1783. A few years later, a teachers' seminary separated from it, which became the prototype of a pedagogical institute.

After the 1917 revolution, the government began to nationalize educational institutions of all types. The school was declared not only compulsory, but also free and open to the public. Measures to eliminate illiteracy led to the fact that in cities almost all children were enrolled in education.

In the period from 1943 to 1954 in our country, education in schools was conducted separately, schools were divided into men's and women's. At the same time, compulsory school uniforms were introduced.

Higher education institutions began to admit students, regardless of their social status and origin. However, the very content of higher education was under the strictest control of the party and the state.

In the late 80s and 90s, education reform was carried out in our country, education came closer to what we know it today.

In 2001, an experiment was carried out in schools in some Russian regions to introduce the Unified State Exam. Since 2009, the Unified State Exam has become the only possible form of passing final exams at school and the main form of entrance exams at universities.

The list of Russian holidays on September 1, 2018 will introduce you to the state, professional, international, folk, church, and unusual holidays that are celebrated in the country on this day. You can select an event of interest and learn its history, traditions and rituals.

Holidays September 1

Knowledge Day (First call)

In our country, every year on September 1, the Day of Knowledge is celebrated. It got its name due to the fact that it is the first day of autumn, when the new academic year begins in all Russian schools, as well as secondary and higher educational institutions.

Knowledge Day is a holiday for all pupils, students, their parents, teachers and professors, as well as all those people who are in some way connected with serving schoolchildren and students.

In Russia there has never been a single start date for the school year - classes in educational institutions began at different times. In the villages, they could start studying only in late autumn, after the end of agricultural work, and city high school students sat down at their desks in mid-August. Only in 1935 did the Council of People's Commissars adopt a resolution on a single start date for studies in all schools. September 1st was the first day of school. At the same time, the length of the school year was established and fixed holidays were introduced.

The date of September 1 was not chosen by chance. In many schools, classes have already started on the first autumn day. The reason for this was that in Rus' for a long time they met on this day New Year. After when Peter I ordered to transfer new year holidays on January 1, the start of school was left on the same date so as not to interrupt educational process take a long break and do not postpone long summer holidays into the winter. The church played not the least role in this matter. Most schools in those days were attached to churches, and the church was in no hurry to change the usual calendar.

The meaning of the Day of Knowledge holiday

Do you remember yourself on the eve of September 1? All textbooks are lovingly wrapped, pencils are sharpened, clothes are ironed, notebooks are signed, and the backpack is packed. This ritual has remained unchanged for decades. Everyone is familiar with the excitement that accompanies preparations for the new school year. Of course - there is a new school year ahead, new knowledge, new impressions and new experiences!

The children are too young to understand the importance of education for personal development, which we begin to understand much later - school gives us knowledge and instills morality, on which the future fate of everyone depends.

The importance of the school community can hardly be overestimated - it shapes the character of each of us, and under the influence of teachers, the child’s talents and abilities are revealed. At school, the first friendship is struck and we experience love - a fantastic feeling, the memories of which accompany the rest of our lives.

Fekla the beetroot maker (Andrey the teplyak)

The folk holiday Thekla the Beetroot (another name is Andrey the Teplyak) is celebrated on September 1, 2018 (August 19, old style). On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyrs Andrei Stratelates, Thekla, Agapius, Timothy of Gaza.

Stratilates means "commander-in-chief." At the beginning of the 4th century, Saint Andrew, who served in the Roman troops, being a Christian, was able to convince many soldiers to renounce paganism. For this he was summoned to the court of the emperor. Neither Andrei nor his squad renounced their faith and were subjected to torture. Having learned about a possible revolt of the soldiers who respected and valued Stratelates as a warrior, the ruler ordered the martyrs to be released and killed secretly. Accepting death, the saint asked God to send people a healing spring in the place where the blood of the martyrs was shed.

All that is known about Thekla, who hails from the city of Gaza, is that she was thrown to the mercy of predators during the great persecution of Christians in 304. Together with her, Agapius and Timothy suffered martyrdom.

“The birthday girl has beets,” people said and began harvesting this vegetable. In Rus', beets have been consumed since ancient times - both white and red. The latter, however, was valued more, including for its healing properties. She was credited with "emollient, nourishing, cooling, diuretic and laxative powers." Crushed beet leaves were applied to inflamed eyes, and raw roots were kept in the mouth for toothache.

A variety of dishes were prepared from beets, primarily soups. The names of at least two of them are known to everyone - this is a hot rich borscht and a cold vitamin botvinya. In addition, they simply served it boiled, made salads out of it, put beet kvass. Beetroot juice was considered one of the best natural food colors. For example, they used it to tint icing sugar pink color, and then covered the festive gingerbread cookies. They also fermented beets in the same way as cabbage, and in winter they served them with boiled vegetables.

The holiday was honored by the people with such a tradition: the birthday woman had to bring several bundles of oats to the hut. Place the first one by the stove in the “woman’s corner” (the place in the hut behind the Russian stove). Place two more in the upper room and entryway. According to legend, the bundles kept evil spirits out of the house and brought prosperity. Save another one for the stable, to ward off the goblin, who liked to play with horse harness.

Signs and sayings for the holiday of Thekla the Beetroot Girl

  • The south wind blows on September 1 - there will be a good oat harvest.
  • If a person was born on September 1, then, according to signs, he will be very wise. As a talisman, he is recommended to wear talismans with agate and garnet.
  • On this day you cannot peer into the fire - you may lose your sight.
  • As Andrey is, so is the whole month.
  • Father, the warm place is full of oats.
  • The warm weather is holding on, everything is bowing to the bygone summer.
  • The sunset is golden or pink - it could be good weather.
  • Rare clouds - to clear and cold weather.
  • The planet Venus is visible in autumn: in the morning - for a mild winter, in the evening - for a harsh one.
  • Atmospheric pressure is high and constant when the wind changes from southwest to northwest - clear weather, without changing air temperature for 1-2 days.

In our country, September 1 has long ago ceased to be just the beginning of autumn. For millions of schoolchildren, students, their parents, as well as for teachers and professors, this is a real holiday - Knowledge Day. From this day the official academic year begins in all educational institutions of the country.

And although this holiday is not a day off, it is traditionally accompanied by ceremonial events - school “lines”, which are attended by all students and teaching staff.

On September 1, first-graders get acquainted with the school and their first teacher. Older students move on to the next grade after a long summer vacation.

The traditions of this holiday, which are passed down from generation to generation of schoolchildren, have become a sea of flowers for teachers, lush bows first-graders, the shimmering sound of the first school bell and, of course, the very first lesson of the coming school year - “Peace Lesson”.

Why does the new school year begin on the first day of autumn?

Since the 15th century, the New Year in Rus' came into effect on September 1, and all schools in those days were church schools, so students sat down at their desks precisely from the church New Year. According to another version, the most important agricultural work was completed precisely with the arrival of calendar autumn, so it was possible to send children to study without much damage to the family at this time. By the way, in Spain the beginning of the new school year still depends on the timing of the harvest, and each province of the country has its own date.

In other countries there is no single date for everyone. For example, in Germany and France the school year begins from August to the end of September, in Italy - October 1, in Japan -

April 1, in Georgia - September 20. In Australia, on the opposite side of the globe, school begins in February, that is, according to the local calendar, at the end of summer.

How well do you know fairy tales?

The grandmother loved her granddaughter very much,

I gave her a red cap.

The girl forgot her name.

Well, tell me, what was her name?

(Little Red Riding Hood.)

As a child, everyone laughed at him,

They tried to push him away:

After all, no one knew that he

Born a white swan.

(Ugly duck.)

The beautiful maiden is sad:

She doesn't like spring

It's hard for her in the sun!

The poor thing is shedding tears.

(Snow Maiden.)

It was baked from flour,

It was freezing at the window.

Run away from grandma and grandpa

And to the fox, he became dinner.

(Kolobok.)

Long unknown to many,

He became everyone's friend.

An interesting fairy tale for everyone

The onion boy is familiar.

Very simple, although long,

He's called...

(Cipollino.)

Two books

One day two books met,

We talked among ourselves.

"Well, how are you doing?" —

One asked the other.

“Oh, honey, I’m ashamed in front of the class:

The owner of my cover pulled out with meat,

What about the covers... I tore off the pages!

From them he makes boats, rafts and pigeons.

I'm afraid the leaves will go to snakes,

Then I'll fly into the clouds.

Are your sides intact?"

“Your torments are not familiar to me.

I don't remember such a day

So that without washing your hands clean,

And look at my leaves:

You won't see the inky dots on them.

I’m silent about blots - about them

And it’s indecent to say.

But I’m not teaching him somehow,

And excellent."

There is no riddle in this fable,

They will tell you straight from books and notebooks,

What kind of student are you?

You don't have to go to your mom

No need to shake grandma:

“Read, please read!”

No need to beg your sister:

“Well, read another page.”

You don't have to call

(V. Berestov)

Control

Seryozha caught a cold. By evening his temperature jumped. Mom gave him tea, put him to bed and said:

— You won’t go to school tomorrow.

In the morning, left alone, Seryozha took out a book from the closet. I got caught up in reading and forgot that I had to take a pill at twelve. But then the phone rang. The cheerful voice of Andrey’s classmate was heard from the receiver:

- What happened, Seryoga, why weren’t you at school?

- Yes, I'm sick. What's new there?

— Vaska brought the hamster to class, and during math class he got out of his backpack and ran to the board... to answer. Haha!

Andrei told him that his father bought him a slide projector, that a new guy appeared in their yard and his name is also Andrei, that Svetlanka Stolyarenko began going to the cinema with Genka Lyapin... And then Andrei groaned and said that he was already late for football training.

A few days later, Seryozha entered the classroom and immediately heard talk about the test. An unpleasant chill ran down my spine: “Why didn’t Andrei warn you? Me and the notebook tests I didn’t take it and didn’t prepare.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll figure something out,” Andrei promised.

Maria Ivanovna allowed me to use the textbook. Seryozha began to repeat what was covered in previous lessons. Nearby, chubby, freckled Vera Prikhodko rustled the pages. Timka Fomichev pushed her in the back and whispered something hotly.

Seryozha cast a quick glance at the teacher: “He looks at me all the time. Where can you write it off!..”

But then Maria Ivanovna went to the window. Andrey pushed Seryozha in the back:

- This is a solution to the problem.

Seryozha did not move.

- Are you crazy?! On the! - Andrei got angry and threw the piece of paper - right on Vera’s notebook. And the teacher was just walking towards her.

Flushing, the girl gave the crumpled piece of paper to Maria Ivanovna. Seryozha lowered his head and thought.

(B. Strutinsky)

For some, this day is a return of memory to the past, for others it is a step into the future.

Write different letters
With a thin feather in a notebook
They teach at school, they teach at school,
They teach at school.
Subtract and multiply
Don't hurt kids
They teach at school, they teach at school,
They teach at school.

Song "What They Teach at School"
Words by M. Plyatskovsky, music by V. Shainsky

These are the first calls and excitement, a sea of flowers and white bows, and, of course, traditional peace lessons. This is the most awaited day for those who cross the school threshold for the first time.

This holiday appeared in Soviet times. Officially, as “Knowledge Day,” it was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR No. 373-11 of June 15, 1984 “On declaring September 1 a national holiday - the Day of Knowledge,” which supplemented Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR No. 3018-X “On holidays and memorable days"from October 1, 1980, a new holiday.

And today, September 1, is the holiday of the beginning of a new school year, especially for pupils, students, teachers and lecturers. Traditionally, schools celebrate the start of the school year on this day. First-graders are greeted with special solemnity in schools.

In secondary specialized and higher educational institutions, as a rule, they do without rulers, but this does not diminish the solemnity of the moment.

September 1 is a holiday for all schoolchildren, students and their parents. We congratulate you on this wonderful day and wish you to remember the most important thing: wisdom in life. May there always be a place in the lives of you and your children for knowledge and wisdom that will help you cope with everyday troubles.

On this day, the holiday of the countries of the post-Soviet space is traditionally celebrated.

The highest peak in Europe - Mount Elbrus - is located on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria

Every year on September 1, Kabardino-Balkaria celebrates Statehood Day, or Republic Day. This holiday was established in 1997 on the occasion of the adoption of the new constitution of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

Its date was not chosen by chance: it was on September 1, 1921, that the Kabardian Autonomous Region was formed by decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR, later, together with the Balkar Autonomous Okrug, transformed into the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Region. Her Nalchik became the capital.

And today, many solemn and festive events are dedicated to this day, which is a day off in the Republic.

The Kabardino-Balkarian Republic is part of the North Caucasus Federal District Russian Federation. In the north it borders with the Stavropol Territory, in the south - with North Ossetia and Georgia, in the west - with Karachay-Cherkessia.

The history of the settlement of these lands began in the 15-16 centuries, when part of the Adyghe tribes (common ancestors of many Caucasian peoples) moved from Taman and the coast of the Azov Sea to the central Ciscaucasia. They formed the basis of future Kabardians. After the Caucasian War in the first half of the 19th century, Russians became the second largest ethnic group in Kabardino-Balkaria.

In the southern part, four mountain ranges of the Greater Caucasus enter the lands of Kabardino-Balkaria at once (they stretch parallel to each other): Cretaceous, Skalisty, Bokovoy and Main (Watershed). Also on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria is the highest point not only in Russia and the North Caucasus, but also in all of Europe - Mountain Elbrus(5642 meters). This is not the only five-thousander in the region: in addition to Elbrus, there are six more mountain peaks whose height above sea level exceeds 5 kilometers.

Chegem waterfalls

The lands of Kabardino-Balkaria are famous for such natural monuments as the Aushiger thermal springs (healing mineral water with a temperature of about 60 degrees comes straight from the ground), the Chegem Gorge with its amazingly beautiful waterfalls (their height reaches 50–60 meters), Blue Lakes - there are five of them in total, the lower one is a giant artesian well. Among the historical sites of these places, the fortified settlements of the 4th-13th centuries, burial grounds and tombs created in different eras, especially stand out.

As souvenirs from Kabardino-Balkaria you can bring turk horns, a horse's horseshoe (a symbol of prosperity), embossed and ceramic products with national symbols, and also knitted wool products made from natural sheep's wool. Local dishes are definitely worth trying Khichin- a delicious Caucasian dish, which is the pride of the local national cuisine.

In Rus', beets have been consumed since ancient times.

Old style date: August 19

On this day, the memory of the three Gaz martyrs is celebrated - Timothy, Agapius and Thekla, who suffered for their faith in 304-306. It is known that Timothy studied the Holy Scriptures from his youth and had the gift of eloquence, thanks to which he became a famous preacher of Christianity. During the persecution of Christians during the reigns of the emperors Diocletian and Maximilian, Timothy was brought to trial and accused of crimes against pagan deities. Despite the torture, the martyr did not renounce his faith, but, on the contrary, preached a sermon about Jesus Christ and his love for all people. For his persistence in his convictions, he was sentenced to be burned.

At the same time and in the same city of Gaza, the martyrs Agapius and Thekla suffered for the true faith. The pagans gave them over to be torn to pieces by wild beasts.

“For Thekla, the birthday girl has beets”, - people said and began harvesting this vegetable. In Rus', beets have been consumed since ancient times - both white and red. The latter, however, was valued more, including for its healing properties. She was credited with "emollient, nourishing, cooling, diuretic and laxative powers." Crushed beet leaves were applied to sore eyes, and raw roots were kept in the mouth for toothache.

A variety of dishes were prepared from beets, primarily soups. The names of at least two of them are known to everyone - this is a hot rich borscht and a cold vitamin botvinya. Pickled beets - beetroot - were served in winter with boiled potatoes.

On Thekla they noticed what kind of wind was blowing: if from the south, then it promised a large harvest of oats. “Father South let the wind blow on the oats”; “Feklin day has come, the oats have arrived”, - said the peasants.
